1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring the 40th Anniversary
2 of Vanderburgh County Court Appointed Special Advocate.
3 Whereas, A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is a
4 trained community volunteer who advocates for abused and
5 neglected children in the child welfare system;
6 Whereas, Guardians ad Litem, like CASAs, advocate for
7 children in court proceedings, including child abuse and
8 neglect, paternity and divorce/custody cases;
9 Whereas, The mission of Vanderburgh County CASA is to
10 support and promote court-appointed volunteer advocacy in the
11 community and to serve as a child's voice in court;
12 Whereas, Vanderburgh County CASA works to establish a
13 safe living environment for abused and neglected children in

1 the community by providing them with the tools and
2 opportunities to thrive;
3 Whereas, In 2023, Vanderburgh County CASA advocated for
4 1,200 children in Vanderburgh County with 167 dedicated
5 volunteers;
6 Whereas, Vanderburgh County CASA's goal for 2024 is to
7 welcome 40 new volunteers in celebration of their 40th year
8 anniversary; and
9 Whereas, In 2023, Vanderburgh County CASA volunteers
10 had logged 17,000 hours of advocating for the children of their
11 community: Therefore,
12 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
13 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
14 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
15 honors the 40th anniversary of Vanderburgh County CASA.
16 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
17 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to State
18 Representatives Wendy McNamara and Tim O'Brien for
19 distribution.
