1343 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
14-SECTION 1. IC 20-32-5.1-20 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA
15-CODE AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS
16-[EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2024]: Sec. 20. Beginning with the 2024-2025
17-school year, the department shall develop a method for identifying
18-students in grade 4 through grade 8 who:
19-(1) did not pass the determinant evaluation of reading skills
20-approved by the state board; and
21-(2) are at risk of not being proficient in reading as determined
22-by Lexile scores on the statewide summative assessment.
23-The department shall develop guidance for schools on how to
24-support students in grade 4 through grade 8 who are at risk of not
25-being proficient in reading.
