2929 A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
3030 professions and occupations.
3131 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
3232 1 SECTION 1. IC 25-23.6-5-3.5, AS AMENDED BY
3333 2 P.L.215-2018(ss), SECTION 12, IS AMENDED TO READ AS
3434 3 FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2024]: Sec. 3.5. (a) For purposes
3535 4 of this section, "qualified supervisor" means:
3636 5 (1) a licensed physician with training in psychiatric medicine;
3737 6 or
3838 7 (2) a licensed clinical psychologist.
3939 8 (b) The applicant for a license as a clinical social worker must have
4040 9 at least two (2) years of clinical social work experience after receiving
4141 10 a graduate degree in social work and under the supervision of a
4242 11 qualified supervisor. as determined by the board.
4343 12 (b) (c) If an individual is obtaining the clinical social work
4444 13 experience described in subsection (a) (b) in Indiana, the individual
4545 14 must be licensed as a social worker under section 1 of this chapter.
4646 15 (c) (d) A doctoral internship may be applied toward the supervised
4747 16 clinical social work experience requirement.
4848 17 (d) (e) Except as provided in subsection (e), (f), the clinical social

5050 1 work experience requirement may be met by work performed at or
5151 2 away from the premises of the qualified supervisor.
5252 3 (e) (f) Except as provided in subsection (g), (h), the clinical social
5353 4 work requirement may not be performed away from the qualified
5454 5 supervisor's premises if:
5555 6 (1) the work is the independent private practice of clinical social
5656 7 work; and
5757 8 (2) the work is not performed at a place with the supervision of a
5858 9 qualified supervisor available.
5959 10 (f) (g) Any supervised clinical social work experience hours that an
6060 11 applicant accumulates under this chapter after being licensed as a
6161 12 social worker under section 1 of this chapter do not expire and may be
6262 13 used by the applicant to satisfy the supervised clinical social work
6363 14 experience requirements under this chapter.
6464 15 (g) (h) Up to fifty percent (50%) seventy-five percent (75%) of the
6565 16 supervised clinical social work experience hours required under
6666 17 subsection (a) (b) may be accounted for through virtual supervision by
6767 18 a qualified supervisor described in subsection (a). (b).
6868 19 (h) (i) After obtaining a temporary permit under section 11.5 of this
6969 20 chapter, any supervised clinical social work experience hours that an
7070 21 applicant accumulates under this chapter before the temporary permit
7171 22 expires may be used by the applicant to satisfy the supervised clinical
7272 23 social work experience requirements under this chapter during the
7373 24 following time after the applicant obtained the temporary permit:
7474 25 (1) For not more than four (4) years.
7575 26 (2) After the four (4) year period, if approved by the board.
