BRAY, GARTEN , read first time and referred to Committee on 2024 RC 1508/DI SM Introduced Second Regular Session 123rd General Assembly (2024) SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION No. _____ 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing the 2 ongoing military efforts of the USS Indianapolis (LCS 17) and 3 its crew. 4 Whereas, On April 18, 2018, the USS Indianapolis was 5 launched as the tenth Freedom-class and seventeenth overall 6 littoral combat ship (LCS) for the United States Navy, the 7 fourth vessel named after the capital city of Indiana; 8 Whereas, The USS Indianapolis was commissioned at 9 Burns Harbor, Indiana, on October 26, 2019; 10 Whereas, Homeported in Naval Station Mayport in 11 Jacksonville, Florida, the USS Indianapolis began its inaugural 12 deployment in May 2023; 13 Whereas, As part of its deployment mission, the USS 14 Indianapolis patrolled more than 11,000 nautical miles across 15 the North Arabian and Red Seas, the Bab al-Mandeb and 16 Hormuz Straits, and the Aden, Oman, and Persian Gulfs; 17 Whereas, While supporting military efforts in the Strait of 18 Hormuz, the USS Indianapolis interdicted an attempted 19 hijacking of Motor Vessel Royal Blue and subsequently 20 escorted the vessel to safety; 21 Whereas, The crew manning the USS Indianapolis 22 participated in various exercises including Infinite Defender, 23 Iron Defender, Ferocious Falcon Five, and Digital Talon 2.0; 2024 RC 1508/DI SM 2 1 Whereas, While supporting exercise Digital Talon 2.0 in 2 late November 2023, the USS Indianapolis was the first LCS to 3 participate in a mesh network as a drone mothership, enabling 4 control of multiple drone assets from one pane of glass and 5 resulting in kinetic kills of a stationary surface target boat by 6 airborne explosive drones fired from a surface drone; and 7 Whereas, It is an honor for Indiana and its capital to have 8 the USS Indianapolis operate in the United States Navy to 9 protect democracy at home and around the world: Therefore, 10 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly 11 of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives 12 concurring: 13 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly 14 recognizes the ongoing military efforts of the USS Indianapolis 15 (LCS 17) and expresses gratitude for the actions of the deployed 16 servicemembers aboard for their dedication and service to the 17 United States of America. 18 SECTION 2.
