ZAY, HOLDMAN , read first time and referred to Committee on 2024 RC 1518/DI SM Introduced Second Regular Session 123rd General Assembly (2024) SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION No. _____ 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the 2 Bishop Luers High School football team on winning the 2023 3 Indiana High School Athletic Association ("IHSAA") Class 2A 4 state championship title. 5 Whereas, The Bishop Luers High School football team 6 capped off their 2023 season at Lucas Oil Stadium in 7 Indianapolis, Indiana, by winning their first IHSAA Class 2A 8 state championship title since 2012; 9 Whereas, The Bishop Luers Knights defeated the 10 Churubusco Eagles 41-30 in their first sectional game and the 11 Eastside Blazers 14-10 in their second to advance to the 12 IHSAA 2A sectional championship match against the 13 Manchester Squires, where the Knights had a strong showing, 14 winning 42-0 and sending them to regionals; 15 Whereas, The Bishop Luers Knights then prevailed 15-7 16 over the Bluffton Tigers in the regional championship and 17 triumphed over the Central Catholic Knights in the semi-state 18 game, winning 28-7 and advancing them to the state 19 championship; 20 Whereas, The Knights won the state championship game 21 against the North Posey Vikings 40-3 despite having the ball 22 for only fifteen minutes and forty-five seconds of the contest; 23 Whereas, After blocking a punt that ended the opposing 24 team's opening possession, the Knights made three plays in 25 sixty seconds to secure a lead over the Vikings that was never 2024 RC 1518/DI SM 2 1 relinquished; 2 Whereas, Knights quarterback Kohen McKenzie effectuated 3 three touchdowns with a grand total of 126 passing yards, and 4 running back Gio Jimenez led the team's ground game with 98 5 yards across 13 carries; 6 Whereas, Head Coach Kyle Lindsay, member of the 7 Knights' 1999 and 2001 title teams, joins a group of three other 8 father-son coaching duos with state titles; and 9 Whereas, The Bishop Luers Knights completed their 10 season with an overall record of 12-3 and their 12th football 11 state title in school history: Therefore, 12 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly 13 of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives 14 concurring: 15 16 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly 17 congratulates the Bishop Luers High School football team on 18 winning the 2023 Indiana High School Athletic Association 19 ("IHSAA") Class 2A state championship title. 20 SECTION 2.
