1010 SENATE RESOLUTION ____
1111 MADAM PRESIDENT:
1212 I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1313 1 A SENATE RESOLUTION urging Governor Holcomb to
1414 2 recognize September as Brain Aneurysm Awareness Month.
1515 3 Whereas, Brain aneurysm, also referred to as cerebral or
1616 4 intracranial aneurysm, is a weak bulging spot on the wall of a
1717 5 brain artery;
1818 6 Whereas, In a brain aneurysm, the blood flow within the
1919 7 artery pounds against the weakened portion of the arterial wall,
2020 8 causing bulging spots that swell outward;
2121 9 Whereas, Continued pressure may cause an aneurysm to
2222 10 rupture, allowing blood to escape in the space around the
2323 11 brain, often requiring advanced surgical treatment;
2424 12 Whereas, Although relatively uncommon, ruptured
2525 13 aneurysms are very serious and usually associated with high
2626 14 rates of mortality and disability;
2727 15 Whereas, Ruptured brain aneurysms are fatal in nearly
2828 16 forty percent of all cases, while survivors face many challenges
2929 17 on their road to recovery, including significant physical and
3030 18 emotional challenges and permanent neurological deficits, with
3131 2024 RR 3514/DI JC 2
3232 1 four out of seven brain aneurysm survivors having a disability
3333 2 and two-thirds suffering some permanent neurological deficit;
3434 3 and
3535 4 Whereas, It is critical that we raise awareness and
3636 5 understanding of brain aneurysms, as only through knowledge
3737 6 and understanding will we be better able to increase the
3838 7 efficacy of early detection and treatment and to help survivors
3939 8 in their recovery: Therefore,
4040 9 Be it resolved by the Senate of the
4141 10 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
4242 11 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate urges Governor
4343 12 Holcomb to recognize September as Brain Aneurysm
4444 13 Awareness Month to raise awareness and better help survivors.
4545 14 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
4646 15 to transmit copies of this Resolution to Governor Eric Holcomb
4747 16 and the Brain Aneurysm Foundation.
