10 | 10 | | SENATE RESOLUTION ____ |
---|
11 | 11 | | MADAM PRESIDENT: |
---|
12 | 12 | | I offer the following resolution and move its adoption: |
---|
13 | 13 | | 1 A SENATE RESOLUTION urging Governor Holcomb to |
---|
14 | 14 | | 2 recognize September as Brain Aneurysm Awareness Month. |
---|
15 | 15 | | 3 Whereas, Brain aneurysm, also referred to as cerebral or |
---|
16 | 16 | | 4 intracranial aneurysm, is a weak bulging spot on the wall of a |
---|
17 | 17 | | 5 brain artery; |
---|
18 | 18 | | 6 Whereas, In a brain aneurysm, the blood flow within the |
---|
19 | 19 | | 7 artery pounds against the weakened portion of the arterial wall, |
---|
20 | 20 | | 8 causing bulging spots that swell outward; |
---|
21 | 21 | | 9 Whereas, Continued pressure may cause an aneurysm to |
---|
22 | 22 | | 10 rupture, allowing blood to escape in the space around the |
---|
23 | 23 | | 11 brain, often requiring advanced surgical treatment; |
---|
24 | 24 | | 12 Whereas, Although relatively uncommon, ruptured |
---|
25 | 25 | | 13 aneurysms are very serious and usually associated with high |
---|
26 | 26 | | 14 rates of mortality and disability; |
---|
27 | 27 | | 15 Whereas, Ruptured brain aneurysms are fatal in nearly |
---|
28 | 28 | | 16 forty percent of all cases, while survivors face many challenges |
---|
29 | 29 | | 17 on their road to recovery, including significant physical and |
---|
30 | 30 | | 18 emotional challenges and permanent neurological deficits, with |
---|
31 | 31 | | 2024 RR 3514/DI JC 2 |
---|
32 | 32 | | 1 four out of seven brain aneurysm survivors having a disability |
---|
33 | 33 | | 2 and two-thirds suffering some permanent neurological deficit; |
---|
34 | 34 | | 3 and |
---|
35 | 35 | | 4 Whereas, It is critical that we raise awareness and |
---|
36 | 36 | | 5 understanding of brain aneurysms, as only through knowledge |
---|
37 | 37 | | 6 and understanding will we be better able to increase the |
---|
38 | 38 | | 7 efficacy of early detection and treatment and to help survivors |
---|
39 | 39 | | 8 in their recovery: Therefore, |
---|
40 | 40 | | 9 Be it resolved by the Senate of the |
---|
41 | 41 | | 10 General Assembly of the State of Indiana: |
---|
42 | 42 | | 11 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate urges Governor |
---|
43 | 43 | | 12 Holcomb to recognize September as Brain Aneurysm |
---|
44 | 44 | | 13 Awareness Month to raise awareness and better help survivors. |
---|
45 | 45 | | 14 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed |
---|
46 | 46 | | 15 to transmit copies of this Resolution to Governor Eric Holcomb |
---|
47 | 47 | | 16 and the Brain Aneurysm Foundation. |
