SENATE RESOLUTION ____
MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1 A SENATE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th
2 Anniversary of the Endangered Species Act.
3 Whereas, The Endangered Species Act was enacted in 1973
4 with bipartisan support to give protections to species that are
5 listed as threatened or endangered;
6 Whereas, The Act provides a program in which threatened
7 or endangered fish, wildlife, plants, and habitats are protected
8 and conservation and recovery efforts are made;
9 Whereas, There is still an existential threat to all species
10 which endangers all life;
11 Whereas, One million species face extinction and one-third
12 of all species are at risk of extinction if proper action is not
13 taken;
14 Whereas, The Act works through the coordination of
15 federal, state, tribal, and local governments to ensure
16 nationwide cooperation; and
17 Whereas, State legislatures play a key role in the recovery

1 of endangered species as we can work to prevent further
2 listings and provide support to the federal government on
3 previously listed wildlife and habitats: Therefore,
4 Be it resolved by the Senate of the
5 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
6 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate recognizes the 50th
7 Anniversary of the Endangered Species Act.
