| 19 | 19 | | 5 Whereas, Diplomatic relations between Ireland and the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | 6 United States began in 1924 when President Calvin Coolidge |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | 7 accepted the credentials of Ambassador Timothy Smiddy, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | 8 making the United States the first nation to establish formal |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | 9 diplomatic relations with Ireland; |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | 10 Whereas, Almost one tenth of Americans identify as being |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | 11 of Irish ancestry; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | 12 Whereas, Irish immigrants have greatly contributed to the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | 13 development of the United States from building skyscrapers to |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | 14 forming the transcontinental railroad to contributing to the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | 15 political structure of America; |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | 16 Whereas, Throughout the 100 years of relations, the ties |

| 31 | 31 | | 17 between Ireland and United States have remained strong, with |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | 18 Ireland being the 9th-largest investor in the United States and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | 19 over 950 American companies established in Ireland; |

| 36 | 36 | | 2 a bipartisan group of current and former Irish American |

|---|
| 39 | 39 | | 5 Whereas, The goal of the caucus is to strengthen the |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | 6 longstanding relationship between the two countries for the |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | 7 mutual benefit of both, provide education and increase |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | 8 understanding for issues of importance for both countries, and |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | 9 celebrate Irish heritage; and |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | 10 Whereas, The summit being held in August will showcase |

| 45 | 45 | | 11 the relationship between the United States and Ireland and |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | 12 celebrate the continuing relationship: Therefore, |

| 48 | 48 | | 14 General Assembly of the State of Indiana: |

| 49 | 49 | | 15 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate recognizes the |

| 50 | 50 | | 16 100th anniversary of continued diplomatic relations with |
|---|
| 51 | 51 | | 17 Ireland and the work of the AISLC. |

| 52 | 52 | | 18 SECTION 2. That the Secretary of the Senate is hereby |
