24	24	A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
25	25	natural and cultural resources.
26	26	Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
27	27	1 SECTION 1. IC 14-8-2-296.5 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA
28	28	2 CODE AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS
29	29	3 [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2025]: Sec. 296.5. "Venison", for purposes of
30	30	4 IC 14-22-6-8.5, has the meaning set forth in IC 14-22-6-8.5.
31	31	5 SECTION 2. IC 14-22-6-8.5 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE
32	32	6 AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY
33	33	7 1, 2025]: Sec. 8.5. (a) As used in this section, "venison" means meat
34	34	8 from a deer.
35	35	9 (b) A person may sell venison if the following requirements are
36	36	10 met:
37	37	11 (1) The person sells venison only from a deer legally taken in
38	38	12 Indiana.
39	39	13 (2) The deer is processed at a commercial deer processing
40	40	14 facility in Indiana.
41	41	15 (3) The venison's packaging is labeled with the following
42	42	16 information:
43	43	17 (A) The name and address of the producer of the food

45	45	1 product.
46	46	2 (B) The common or usual name of the food product.
47	47	3 (C) The ingredients of the food product, in descending
48	48	4 order by predominance by weight.
49	49	5 (D) The net weight or volume of the food product by
50	50	6 standard measure or numerical count.
51	51	7 (E) The date on which the food product was processed.
52	52	8 (4) Following the processing of the deer, the:
53	53	9 (A) packaging containing the venison is not altered or
54	54	10 disturbed; and
55	55	11 (B) food product containing the venison is kept
56	56	12 refrigerated through the point of sale and delivery to the
57	57	13 consumer.
58	58	14 (5) Any additional rules adopted by the department.
59	59	15 (c) Any person may prepare and serve venison for human
60	60	16 consumption if the venison is purchased from a person who
61	61	17 complies with this section.
62	62	18 (d) The department shall adopt rules under IC 4-22-2 to
63	63	19 implement this section.
