RESOLUTION No. 9
1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana
2 Department of Transportation to rename the bridge on State
3 Road 67 over the Salamonie River in Jay County the "Lance
4 Corporal Andrew Whitacre Memorial Bridge".
5 Whereas, Lance Corporal Andrew Whitacre bravely served
6 his country in Iraq and Afghanistan, ultimately giving his life
7 during combat operations in Afghanistan on June 19th, 2008;
8 Whereas, He was a dedicated Marine, serving with the 2nd
9 battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine
10 Expeditionary Force;
11 Whereas, He embodied the United States Marine Corps
12 values of honor, courage, and commitment while supporting
13 Operation Enduring Freedom and training the Afghan national
14 police; and
15 Whereas, Lance Corporal Andrew Whitacre's exceptional
16 service, reflected in his six awards and commendations,
17 highlights his vital role and the profound impact of his sacrifice
18 to the Marine Corps and his country: Therefore,
19 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
20 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
21 the Senate concurring:
22 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly urges the
23 Indiana Department of Transportation to rename the bridge on
24 State Road 67 over the Salamonie River in Jay County the
25 "Lance Corporal Andrew Whitacre Memorial Bridge".

1 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
2 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to the
3 Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Transportation.
