16 | 16 | | RESOLUTION No. ____ |
---|
17 | 17 | | 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing May as |

23 | 23 | | 7 Native, Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander women; |
---|
24 | 24 | | 8 Whereas, Lupus causes the immune system to attack healthy |
---|

---|
26 | 26 | | 10 damage to various organs, including the skin, joints, kidneys, |

28 | 28 | | 12 Whereas, Symptoms of lupus can be so highly variable, |
---|
29 | 29 | | 13 affecting the musculoskeletal, nervous, blood, immune, and |
---|
30 | 30 | | 14 reproductive systems, and it can also cause increased risks of |
---|
31 | 31 | | 15 cancer, chronic pain, fatigue, hair loss, eye complications, and |
---|
32 | 32 | | 16 psychological effects making diagnosis and treatment of the |

33 | 33 | | 17 disease difficult; |
---|
34 | 34 | | 18 Whereas, The variability of this condition often leads to |
---|
35 | 35 | | 19 delays in treatment, increased health care costs, and reduced |
---|
36 | 36 | | 20 quality of life for patients; |
---|
37 | 37 | | 21 Whereas, Public education campaigns, clinical trials, and |

41 | 41 | | 25 there is no known cure for lupus; |
---|

---|
45 | 45 | | 3 additional research funding, and acknowledging the strength of |
---|
46 | 46 | | 4 those struggling with this chronic disease; |
---|
47 | 47 | | 5 Whereas, President Ronald Reagan first designated a |
---|
48 | 48 | | 6 national month of awareness, "to mark our great concern for |
---|
49 | 49 | | 7 the thousands of Americans who suffer from lupus," and other |
---|
50 | 50 | | 8 leaders have joined the cause; and |
---|
51 | 51 | | 9 Whereas, It is important that the state of Indiana join in these |
---|
52 | 52 | | 10 efforts to raise awareness, reduce health disparities, and offer |
---|
53 | 53 | | 11 support to those individuals and families affected by lupus: |
