1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION congratulating the Trinity
2 Lutheran High School girls volleyball team.
3 Whereas, The Trinity Lutheran High School girls volleyball
4 team won the IHSAA Class 1A state championship on
5 November 9, 2024, at Ball State University's Worthen Arena
6 when the Cougars defeated Faith Christian in three sets;
7 Whereas, The state championship win marked their seventh
8 consecutive three-set state tournament match victory;
9 Whereas, This marks the first state championship for Trinity
10 Lutheran High School;
11 Whereas, The girls volleyball program was a state finalist in
12 2011, 2019, and 2021, and the Cougars were able to finish the
13 job in their 2024 appearance;

1 Whereas, Trinity Lutheran amassed 45 digs as a team
2 compared to Faith Christian's 29, and the Cougars' seven total
3 team blocks set a new Class 1A, three-set state championship
4 record;
5 Whereas, Senior Laura Roeder of Trinity Lutheran High
6 School was announced as the recipient of the Mental Attitude
7 Award by the IHSAA executive committee, which is presented
8 to a senior nominated by her principal and coach, who has
9 demonstrated excellence in mental attitude, scholarship,
10 leadership, and athletic ability during her four years of high
11 school;
12 Whereas, Head coach Janet VanLiew, who founded the
13 volleyball program at Trinity Lutheran in 2001, was named the
14 state Class 1A Coach of the Year; and
15 Whereas, Overall, the victory was a team effort with all of
16 the girls working together to secure a state championship for
17 themselves, their school, and their community: Therefore,
18 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
19 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
20 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
21 congratulates the Trinity Lutheran High School girls volleyball
22 team.
23 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
24 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to State
25 Representative Jim Lucas for distribution.
