1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION recognizing Brock Hurley of
2 the Rensselaer, Indiana, chapter of the FFA.
3 Whereas, Brock Hurley is president of the Rensselaer
4 chapter of the FFA, as well as a senior at Rensselaer Central
5 High School;
6 Whereas, Brock Hurley represented Indiana in the
7 Employment Skills category at the 2024 National FFA
8 Convention in Indianapolis and was announced as the national
9 champion;
10 Whereas, Brock Hurley competed against 46 other
11 competitors from across the country;
12 Whereas, The contest is a Leadership Development Event
13 designed to develop skills related to the job application

1 process. One student from each state may participate in the
2 competition, which consisted of submitting a resume and cover
3 letter several months prior to the convention. Participants also
4 provided a detailed job description for a position they wished
5 to apply for;
6 Whereas, Students were required to complete an online
7 interview on Zoom several weeks prior to attending a
8 face-to-face interview. After this, they followed up with
9 correspondence in the form of a letter, thank you note, or
10 email;
11 Whereas, After scores were compiled, the candidate pool
12 was narrowed down to 12 finalists, who then went through
13 another round of interviews and they attended a networking
14 luncheon with the judges. In the final phase, the candidates
15 received a job offer and had to negotiate for their job
16 opportunity; and
17 Whereas, Brock Hurley represented Indiana and was
18 selected as the best candidate, displaying great leadership
19 qualities and skills, and received the national award for his
20 efforts: Therefore,
21 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
22 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
23 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
24 recognizes Brock Hurley of the Rensselaer chapter of the FFA
25 for being named a national champion at the 2024 National FFA
26 Convention in Indianapolis.
27 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
28 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to State
29 Representative Kendell Culp for distribution.
