Synopsis:  Participation in community eligibility provision. Requires
the department of education to provide technical assistance to a school
corporation that is eligible to participate in and elects to participate in
the federal community eligibility provision to provide free school
breakfast and lunch to all students.
Effective:  July 1, 2025.

SENATE BILL No. 224
A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
education.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
1 SECTION 1. IC 20-26-9-20 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE
2 AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY
3 1, 2025]: Sec. 20. (a) As used in this section, "federal community
4 eligibility provision" refers to the federal community eligibility
5 provision:
6 (1) under 42 U.S.C. 1759a and 7 CFR 245.9(f), as in effect on
7 January 1, 2025; and
8 (2) administered by the United States Department of
9 Agriculture;
10 that is an alternative reimbursement option for eligible school
11 corporations with a high concentration of low income students to
12 provide universal free school breakfast and lunch to all students.
13 (b) Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, the department shall
14 provide technical assistance to a school corporation that:
15 (1) is eligible to participate in the federal community
16 eligibility provision; and
17 (2) elects to participate in the federal community eligibility
