RESOLUTION No. _____
1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION celebrating the 150th
2 anniversary of the Purdue College of Engineering,
3 Whereas, In 1874, Purdue established its first four-year
4 courses in civil and mechanical engineering;
5 Whereas, Purdue granted its first engineering degree in
6 1878 and has increased the number of students substantially to
7 more than 4,000 engineering graduates in 2024;
8 Whereas, Purdue's College of Engineering also debuted the
9 nation's first Women in Engineering program and was a
10 founding chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers;
11 Whereas, The Purdue College of Engineering ranked eighth
12 nationally, and Seven of the College of Engineering's eleven
13 schools are ranked in the top ten undergraduate programs by
14 U.S. News & World Report;
15 Whereas, In 2022, Purdue launched the nation's first
16 comprehensive Semiconductor Degrees program, another
17 example of the College of Engineering's plan to educate the
18 next generation of workforce leaders in semiconductors and
19 microelectronics;
20 Whereas, Famed graduates of Purdue's College of
21 Engineering include the first person to set foot on the moon,
22 Neil Armstrong, the creator of the soft-serve ice cream
23 machine, Frank Thomas Jr., the designer of the Golden Gate
24 Bridge, Charles Ellis, the second American in space, Gus

1 Grissom, and countless other alumni;
2 Whereas, There are more than 100,000 living alumni of the
3 Purdue College of Engineering; and
4 Whereas, In 2024, Purdue officially celebrated the historic
5 150th anniversary of the College of Engineering: Therefore,
6 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly
7 of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives
8 concurring:
9 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly celebrates
10 the 150th anniversary of the Purdue College of Engineering.
11 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
12 to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Arvind Raman, the John
13 A. Edwardson Dean of the College of Engineering at Purdue
14 University.
