22	21		1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana
23	22		2 Department of Transportation to rename the portion of I-65
24	23		3 between mile marker 137 and 138 in Boone County the
25	24		4 "Deputy Jacob M. Pickett Memorial Mile".
26	25		5 Whereas, Deputy Jacob "Jake" M. Pickett was born in
27	26		6 Columbus, Ohio, to Marlin and Rebecca Pickett on December
28	27		7 20, 1983;
29	28		8 Whereas, After attending and graduating from Brownsburg
30	29		9 High School, Deputy Pickett completed his initial law
31	30		10 enforcement training at the Marion County Sheriff's Office
32	31		11 Training Academy in 2010 and the Indiana Law Enforcement
33	32		12 Academy in 2014 with Class 202 as a pistol expert;
34	33		13 Whereas, Deputy Pickett began his law enforcement career
35	34		14 in 2010 at the Marion County Sheriff's Office as a detention
36	35		15 deputy and member of the Sheriff's Presentation Corps, where
37	36		16 he served for three years before transferring to the Tipton
38	37		17 County Sheriff's Office;
39	38		18 Whereas, In 2015, Deputy Pickett joined the Boone County
40	39		19 Sheriff's Office, where he served as a taser instructor, K-9 team
41	40		20 leader, K-9 handler, and member of the Fraternal Order of
42	41		21 Police #110;
43	42		22 Whereas, Deputy Pickett's acts of service extended both in
44	43		23 uniform and out of it by greeting children at school, organizing
45	44		24 a children's Christmas card drive, and rescuing animals with
46	45		25 his wife;

48	47		1 Whereas, On March 2, 2018, the Lebanon Police
49	48		2 Department were serving a warrant on a female subject when
50	49		3 another male with multiple active warrants was seen in the
51	50		4 area and fled the scene in a vehicle along with two other males,
52	51		5 during which time Deputy Pickett joined the pursuit;
53	52		6 Whereas, After a short pursuit, all three males exited the
54	53		7 vehicle onto Indiana Spring Road and fled on foot, shortly
55	54		8 followed by Deputy Pickett and his canine partner, Brik;
56	55		9 Whereas, Deputy Pickett was fatally shot during the foot
57	56		10 pursuit, but was able to complete one lasting act of service by
58	57		11 donating his organs three days later;
59	58		12 Whereas, Deputy Pickett is survived by his wife, Jennifer,
60	59		13 sons, Lincoln David and Wade Matthew, parents, sister, and in-
61	60		14 laws;
62	61		15 Whereas, In honor of Deputy Pickett's legacy, Jennifer
63	62		16 established the Jake Pickett Response Organization to assist
64	63		17 other law enforcement families during tragic life events; and
65	64		18 Whereas, It is fitting for the Indiana Department of
66	65		19 Transportation to rename the portion of I-65 between mile
67	66		20 marker 137 and 138 in Boone County in honor of Deputy
68	67		21 Pickett's lifetime of service and dedication to Boone County and
69	68		22 the State of Indiana: Therefore,
70	69		23 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly
71	70		24 of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives
72	71		25 concurring:
73	72		26 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly urges the
74	73		27 Indiana Department of Transportation to rename the portion of
75	74		28 I-65 between mile marker 137 and 138 in Boone County the
76	75		29 "Deputy Jacob M. Pickett Memorial Mile".
77	76		30 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
78	77		31 to transmit copies of this Resolution to the family of Deputy
79	78		32 Jacob M. Pickett and the Commissioner of the Indiana
80	79		33 Department of Transportation.

83	82		Mr. President: The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and
84	83		Transportation, to which was referred Senate Concurrent Resolution
85	84		No. 13, has had the same under consideration and begs leave to report
86	85		the same back to the Senate with the recommendation that said
87	86		resolution DO PASS.
