WALKER K , read first time and referred to Committee on 2025 RC 1505/DI BB Introduced First Regular Session 124th General Assembly (2025) SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION No. _____ 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating Cole 2 Hocker on winning the gold medal in the 1500 meter track and 3 field event at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. 4 Whereas, Cole Hocker was born on June 6, 2001, in 5 Indianapolis, Indiana, to Kyle and Janet Hocker and grew up 6 running around Geist Reservoir and Fort Benjamin Harrison 7 State Park; 8 9 Whereas, After running a 4-minute, 36-second mile in the 10 eighth grade, Cole began to pursue running seriously, logging 11 between 27 to 37 miles a week and winning state titles in cross 12 country and the 800 meter and 1600 meter track and field 13 events as a senior at Cathedral High School; 14 Whereas, After graduating from Cathedral in 2019, Cole 15 ran with the University of Oregon track team from 2019 to 16 2021, where he became the first Hoosier ever to run a sub-four- 17 minute mile and won four NCAA titles; 18 Whereas, At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, 19 Cole became the youngest athlete to represent the United States 20 in an Olympic 1500 meter race since 1968, finishing in sixth 21 place; 22 Whereas, In June 2024, Cole broke the U.S. Olympic Trials 23 record in the 1500 meter event with a time of 3:30.59; 24 Whereas, At the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, 25 on the bell lap of the men's 1500 meter final, Cole, entering the 2025 RC 1505/DI BB 2 1 lap in fifth place, took the inside lane and blazed down the 2 home stretch to finish in first place in one of the biggest upsets 3 in Olympic history, winning the gold medal; 4 Whereas, With a time of 3 minutes, 27.65 seconds, Cole set 5 an Olympic record in the 1500 meter running event; and 6 Whereas, As an Olympic gold medal winner and record 7 holder, Cole Hocker has forever secured a place in Hoosier 8 sports history: Therefore, 9 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly 10 of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives 11 concurring: 12 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly 13 congratulates Cole Hocker on winning the gold medal in the 14 1500 meter track and field event at the 2024 Summer Olympics 15 in Paris, France. 16 SECTION 2.
