BRAY , read first time and referred to Committee on 2025 RC 1522/DI JR Introduced First Regular Session 124th General Assembly (2025) SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION No. _____ 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing the 2 meaningful connections between Switzerland and Indiana. 3 Whereas, During the late 1700s and 1800s, hundreds of 4 thousands of Swiss families left Europe and settled across the 5 United States, establishing homes in Midwestern states, 6 including Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin; 7 Whereas, In honor of some of the Swiss settlers who 8 immigrated to southeast Indiana, Switzerland County was 9 formed in southeast Indiana in 1814; 10 Whereas, Indiana has since become the proud home of over 11 39,000 Hoosiers of Swiss descent; 12 Whereas, The State of Indiana, the United States, and 13 Switzerland have enjoyed friendly relations for centuries based 14 on shared values, such as democracy, the rule of law, and 15 respect for human rights; 16 Whereas, The United States is the main destination for 17 Swiss exports and plays a key partner role in the field of 18 education and research for Switzerland; 19 Whereas, The Swiss have played a large role in Hoosier 20 jobs and the state's economy, with Swiss affiliates and exports 21 supporting over 15,000 jobs in Indiana, the seventh-highest 22 amount of jobs created by a foreign affiliate, and 52 Swiss 23 companies with a presence in Indiana; 2025 RC 1522/DI JR 2 1 Whereas, In 2023, Switzerland was Indiana's 4th largest 2 import partner, importing over $8 billion in goods, including 3 chemicals, computers, and electronic products, while in 2024 4 exports from Indiana totaled just over $460 million, including 5 chemicals and transportation equipment; 6 Whereas, The Swiss model of youth apprenticeships has 7 greatly enhanced the Swiss economy by breaking down barriers 8 between educators and businesses, and has served as an 9 inspiration for Hoosier leaders as a key part of the solution to 10 workforce issues in Indiana; and 11 Whereas, After meeting with Swiss leaders, Indiana leaders 12 have approved new Indiana diploma requirements that include 13 an increase in access to work-based learning inspired by the 14 Swiss model starting with the class of 2029: Therefore, 15 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly 16 of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives 17 concurring: 18 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly 19 recognizes and celebrates the strong relationship between 20 Switzerland and Indiana. 21 SECTION 2.
