SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION No. _____
1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing the
2 meaningful connections between Switzerland and Indiana.
3 Whereas, During the late 1700s and 1800s, hundreds of
4 thousands of Swiss families left Europe and settled across the
5 United States, establishing homes in Midwestern states,
6 including Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin;
7 Whereas, In honor of some of the Swiss settlers who
8 immigrated to southeast Indiana, Switzerland County was
9 formed in southeast Indiana in 1814;
10 Whereas, Indiana has since become the proud home of over
11 39,000 Hoosiers of Swiss descent;
12 Whereas, The State of Indiana, the United States, and
13 Switzerland have enjoyed friendly relations for centuries based
14 on shared values, such as democracy, the rule of law, and
15 respect for human rights;
16 Whereas, The United States is the main destination for
17 Swiss exports and plays a key partner role in the field of
18 education and research for Switzerland;
19 Whereas, The Swiss have played a large role in Hoosier
20 jobs and the state's economy, with Swiss affiliates and exports
21 supporting over 15,000 jobs in Indiana, the seventh-highest
22 amount of jobs created by a foreign affiliate, and 52 Swiss
23 companies with a presence in Indiana;
2025	RC 1522/DI JR 2
1 Whereas, In 2023, Switzerland was Indiana's 4th largest

3 chemicals, computers, and electronic products, while in 2024
4 exports from Indiana totaled just over $460 million, including
5 chemicals and transportation equipment;
6 Whereas, The Swiss model of youth apprenticeships has
7 greatly enhanced the Swiss economy by breaking down barriers
8 between educators and businesses, and has served as an
9 inspiration for Hoosier leaders as a key part of the solution to
10 workforce issues in Indiana; and
11 Whereas, After meeting with Swiss leaders, Indiana leaders
12 have approved new Indiana diploma requirements that include
13 an increase in access to work-based learning inspired by the
