BUCK, DONATO , read first time and referred to Committee on 2025 RC 1538/DI JR Introduced First Regular Session 124th General Assembly (2025) SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION No. _____ 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION memorializing Lynn 2 Reid. 3 Whereas, Lynn Reid of Logansport, Indiana, attended his 4 first Indianapolis 500 in 1948, which saw Mauri Rose become 5 the second person ever to win the Indy 500 in consecutive 6 years; 7 Whereas, Reid served a tour of duty in Vietnam and upon 8 returning home to Indiana, wanted to find a job connected to 9 racing, so he asked for a job in the garage area of the Indy 500; 10 Whereas, Through his grit and persistence, Reid landed 11 jobs hauling race cars around the country, building sprint cars 12 for Ronnie Buckman, and working under the direction of famed 13 Indy 500 car builder Lindsey Hopkins; 14 Whereas, Reid later received an offer to serve as chief 15 mechanic for Fred Gerhardt's team, where he helped the team 16 record several second- and third-place finishes; 17 Whereas, A fixture in the garages at Indianapolis Motor 18 Speedway, the best finish at the Indianapolis 500 that Reid was 19 a part of was in 1974 when Jim McElreath finished in sixth 20 place; 21 Whereas, Outside of official Indycar garages, Reid also 22 notably built the vehicle movie star Paul Newman drove for the 23 filming of the movie "Winning"; 24 2025 RC 1538/DI JR 2 1 Whereas, Reid loved the sport of racing, passing on his 2 passion to his son, Boston, who competed in sprint cars, the 3 Camping World Truck Series, and Nationwide Services with 4 NASCAR; 5 Whereas, After leaving racing, Reid started Kokomo Honda 6 in 1975, being one of the first owners of a Honda franchise in 7 America; 8 Whereas, During his retirement, Reid was an open wheel 9 driver in the Vintage Sports Car Drivers Association, known by 10 all for his incredible knowledge and respected by everyone who 11 knew him; and 12 Whereas, Reid passed away in April 2024 and he will 13 always be remembered for his love for cars and the Greatest 14 Spectacle in Racing: Therefore, 15 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly 16 of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives 17 concurring: 18 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly 19 memorializes Lynn Reid and honors him for his contributions 20 to the sport of racing. 21 SECTION 2.
