A SENATE RESOLUTION honoring Senator Mark Messmer
upon his retirement from the Indiana Senate.

SENATE RESOLUTION ____
MR. PRESIDENT:  
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1 A SENATE RESOLUTION honoring Senator Mark
2 Messmer upon his retirement from the Indiana Senate. 
3 Whereas, Senator Mark Messmer has faithfully and
4 honorably served the constituents of District 48, encompassing
5 Crawford, Dubois, Gibson, Perry, Pike, and Spencer counties,
6 since being elected in 2014; 
7 Whereas, Before being elected to the Indiana Senate,
8 Senator Messmer served three terms in the Indiana House of
9 Representatives, representing District 63; 
10 Whereas, During his tenure in the Senate, Senator Messmer
11 served in a variety of leadership roles, including Chair of
12 Environmental Affairs, Chair of Joint Rules, and four years as
13 Majority Floor Leader of the Indiana Senate; 
14 Whereas, Senator Messmer served on a variety of
15 committees, including Public Policy, Homeland Security and
16 Transportation, Insurance and Financial Institutions, and
17 Veterans Affairs and The Military; 
18 Whereas, Hailing from Jasper, Indiana, Senator Messmer

1 focused on the needs of rural Hoosier communities and prided
2 himself in working on laws that support local businesses,
3 protect children, and ensure immigration laws are enforced in
4 Indiana;
5 Whereas, Senator Messmer authored Senate Enrolled Act
6 206 in 2020, which increased protections for child sex abuse
7 victims by establishing new procedures for depositions, and
8 followed that important bill up with Senate Enrolled Act 331 in
9 2023, which strengthened his 2020 law by requiring the
10 presence of a prosecuting attorney during the deposition of a
11 child sex abuse victim; 
12 Whereas, Senator Messmer is the co-owner of Messmer
13 Mechanical, Inc., is a proud graduate of Purdue University
14 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, and he
15 and his wife, Kim, have four children and seven grandchildren;
16 and
17 Whereas, Senator Messmer was and continues to be a
18 valued member of the Indiana Senate extended family and his
19 passion, dedication, and devotion will be greatly missed, even
20 as he continues to serve our state in Congress: Therefore, 
21	Be it resolved by the Senate of the
22 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
23 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate honors Senator Mark
24 Messmer upon his retirement and thanks him for his faithful
25 service to the Indiana Senate and the people of Senate District
26 48, and wishes him all the best as he serves in Congress.
27 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
28 to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Senator Mark Messmer
29 and his family.
