| 17 | 17 | | 4 Whereas, Joseph (Joe) E. Olofson was born in |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 5 Bloomington, Indiana, and spent his early years in Kokomo, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | 6 Indiana, before moving to Indianapolis in 1951; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | 7 Whereas, Joe graduated from Shortridge High School in |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | 8 1958 and joined the U.S. Naval Reserve, serving two years of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | 9 active duty aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Forrestal; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | 10 Whereas, Joe fulfilled a lifelong dream in 1961 when he |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | 11 hired onto the Indianapolis Fire Department, where he would |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | 12 continue to serve for 41 years; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | 13 Whereas, Joe served in many positions with the fire |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | 14 department and was continually promoted throughout his years |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | 15 of service. He was appointed to Division Chief of Operations |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | 16 on February 21, 2000, and initially retired in 2003. |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | 17 Immediately upon retirement, Joe became the Chief of Fire for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | 18 the Pike Township Fire Department, holding this position for |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | 19 4 years; |

| 34 | 34 | | 1 Whereas, Joe assisted in the planning of FDIC (Fire |

| 35 | 35 | | 2 Department Instructors Conference) week for several years and |

| 36 | 36 | | 3 was the 2nd President of the Local 416, President of the Retired |

| 37 | 37 | | 4 Firefighters Club, member of the Murat Temple Shriners Club, |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | 5 and an avid Colts fan, always supporting his home team; and |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | 6 Whereas, Joe passed away on August 18, 2024, and is |

| 40 | 40 | | 7 survived by his wife, Ruth, his three children, five |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | 8 grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren: Therefore, |

| 42 | 42 | | 9 Be it resolved by the Senate of the |
