| 4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, The Kansas State Department of Education sponsors |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | the Kansas Teacher of the Year program, which identifies, recognizes |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | and utilizes representatives of excellent teaching in the elementary and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | secondary classrooms of the state; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The mission of the program is to build and utilize a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | network of exemplary teachers who are leaders in the improvement of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | schools, student performance and the teaching profession; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Two teachers – one elementary and one secondary – in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | each of the state's four United States congressional districts were |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | selected as finalists for recognition as Kansas Teacher of the Year, with |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the recipient being chosen from among the eight finalists; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The Kansas Teacher of the Year is awarded the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Hubbard Foundation Kansas Teacher of the Year Ambassadorship, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | which enables the person selected to devote significant time during the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | second semester to activities supporting the mission of the program. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | The 2023 Kansas Teacher of the Year and the finalists were honored at |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | an awards banquet on September 24, 2022. All members received a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | cash award as well as mementos of the event; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The Kansas Teacher of the Year is nominated to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | represent Kansas in the National Teacher of the Year program, a project |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | of the Council of Chief State School Officers, presented by Voya |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Financial; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The 2023 Kansas Teacher of the Year is Brian Skinner, |

| 27 | 27 | | Newton USD 373; and the regional finalists are: Jessica Gazzano, |
