| 9 | 9 | Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas: | |
| 10 | 10 | Section 1. (a) On or before January 1, 2026, the secretary of state, | |
| 11 | 11 | after consultation with county election officers, shall adopt rules and | |
| 12 | 12 | regulations for the use of remote ballot boxes by county election officers | |
| 13 | 13 | for the return of advance voting ballots. Such regulations shall include the | |
| 14 | 14 | dates, times and locations for the use of remote ballot boxes and any other | |
| 15 | 15 | requirements that the secretary deems necessary to preserve the integrity | |
| 16 | 16 | of the ballots, the remote ballot boxes and the election process. | |
| 17 | 17 | (b) As used in this section, "remote ballot boxes" means any form of | |
| 18 | 18 | locked ballot boxes designated by the county election officer as available | |
| 19 | 19 | for use for depositing advance voting ballots. "Remote ballot boxes" does | |
| 20 | 20 | not include any ballot boxes located in a county election office or satellite | |
| 21 | 21 | advance voting site. | |
| 22 | 22 | Sec. 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its | |
| 23 | 23 | publication in the statute book. | |
