| 6 | 6 | | AN ACT concerning the legislature; establishing a seal for the house of |

| 7 | 7 | | representatives; providing for the custody and use thereof. |

| 8 | 8 | | Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas: |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Section 1. (a) The seal affixed to the front of the podium in the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | chamber of the house of representatives on the effective date of this act is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | hereby established as the seal of the house of representatives. Such seal is |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | described as follows: The east is represented by a rising sun, in the right- |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | hand corner of the seal; to the left of it, commerce is represented by a river |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and a steamboat; in the foreground, agriculture is represented as the basis |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | of the future prosperity of the state, by a settler's cabin and a man plowing |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | with a pair of horses; beyond this is a train of ox-wagons, going west; in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the background is seen a herd of buffalo, retreating, pursued by two |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Indians, on horseback; around the top is the motto, "Ad astra per aspera," |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and beneath a cluster of thirty-four stars. The circle is surrounded by the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | words, "Kansas House of Representatives". |

| 21 | 21 | | (b) The seal of the house of representatives shall be kept in the office |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | of the speaker of the house of representatives and used in attestation of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | official documents of the house of representatives and for such other |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | purposes as approved by the speaker. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Sec. 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | publication in the statute book. |
