UNOFFICIAL COPY 22 RS HB 270/GA Page 1 of 2 HB027010.100 - 1388 - XXXX GA AN ACT relating to prevention-oriented child abuse awareness instruction. 1 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 2 SECTION 1. A NEW SECTION OF KRS CHAPTER 158 IS CREATED TO 3 READ AS FOLLOWS: 4 (1) Starting with the 2022-2023 school year, a local superintendent shall adopt a 5 curriculum for annual child abuse awareness and prevention instruction for all 6 students in kindergarten through grade twelve (12) that may be integrated into 7 relevant existing curriculum and shall: 8 (a) Include age-appropriate and evidence-based instruction on child physical, 9 sexual, and emotional abuse and neglect awareness and prevention; 10 (b) Include instruction on how to report suspected child abuse and neglect; 11 (c) Be taught by a school counselor, school safety specialist, or other individual 12 with training and expertise in child abuse and neglect awareness and 13 prevention; and 14 (d) Be approved by the department in accordance with subsection (2) of this 15 section. 16 (2) A description of curriculum for the child abuse awareness and prevention 17 instruction adopted in accordance with subsection (1) of this section shall be 18 made available for review by parents and guardians on the school Web site, and 19 in print upon request, at least two (2) weeks prior to the instruction. 20 (3) The department, with assistance from the Department for Community Based 21 Services and other appropriate agencies, shall: 22 (a) Develop and maintain a list of approved curricula for child abuse 23 awareness and prevention instruction that include age-appropriate and 24 evidence-based instruction on child physical, sexual, and emotional abuse 25 and neglect awareness and prevention; and 26 (b) Provide technical assistance to districts that request assistance with the 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 22 RS HB 270/GA Page 2 of 2 HB027010.100 - 1388 - XXXX GA adoption and implementation of the curriculum, including but not limited 1 to the timely review of a curriculum proposed by a district. 2 Section 2. This Act may be cited as Erin's Law. 3
