A RESOLUTION recognizing February as FAFSA February. 1
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Kentucky has a strong commitment to 2
improving the educational attainment of its citizens, which will culminate in individual as 3
well as state economic growth and prosperity; and 4
WHEREAS, the cost of postsecondary education is continually rising, hindering the 5
ability of many Kentucky students and families to pay the cost of attendance; and 6
WHEREAS, by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or 7
FAFSA, as early as possible, students can receive federal, state, and institutional financial 8
awards; and 9
WHEREAS, February is National Financial Aid Awareness Month, an ideal time to 10
encourage FAFSA completion; and 11
WHEREAS, the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority provides tools 12
and resources to help with FAFSA completion for traditional and nontraditional students 13
and provides outreach services to promote awareness of the numerous financial aid 14
opportunities that are available to citizens of the Commonwealth; and 15
WHEREAS, as of January 2023, Kentucky was ranked ninth in the nation for high 16
school FAFSA completion; 17
NOW, THEREFORE, 18
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the 19
Commonwealth of Kentucky: 20
Section 1. This honorable body recognizes February as FAFSA February and 21
respectfully urges all secondary and postsecondary education institutions throughout the 22
Commonwealth to inform their students of the importance of completing the FAFSA in a 23
timely manner and the numerous financial aid opportunities available to them. 24
Section 2. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a 25
copy of this Resolution to Governor Andy Beshear, Room 100, State Capitol, Frankfort, 26
