A RESOLUTION honoring Kosair Charities and commemorating its 100 years of 1
service to Kentucky children. 2
WHEREAS, in 1923, members of the Kosair Shrine Center formed Kosair Charities 3
Committee, Inc.; and 4
WHEREAS, in 1926, Kosair Crippled Children Hospital, a freestanding 5
specialized-care hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, opened its doors to children regardless 6
of condition or financial standing. The hospital was instrumental in treating and 7
supporting children suffering from orthopedic conditions and other childhood diseases of 8
the time; and 9
WHEREAS, today, Kosair Charities' mission is to enhance the health and well-10
being of children by delivering financial support for healthcare, research, education, 11
social services, and child advocacy; and 12
WHEREAS, Kosair Charities administers the Kosair Kids Financial Assistance 13
Program to pay the costs of medical bills, medical equipment, and other healthcare needs 14
for children whose families cannot afford care; and 15
WHEREAS, Kosair Charities provides Kosair Kids with free, age-appropriate 16
experiences to enjoy regardless of ability levels, sensory limitations, or financial 17
restrictions; and 18
WHEREAS, Kosair Charities is a protector and advocate for all kids. In 2013, 19
Kosair Charities founded the Face It Movement to end child abuse and neglect in 20
Kentucky by promoting best practices in prevention and intervention. Since the Face It 21
Movement began, over 100 partner organizations have lent their expertise to activating a 22
three-pronged approach to improve the child welfare system; and 23
WHEREAS, Kosair Charities provides millions of dollars annually in critical grant 24
funding to support organizations that provide services to children; and 25
WHEREAS, over the last 100 years, Kosair Charities has grown into the largest and 26
most comprehensive children's charity in Kentucky, helping countless children in need to 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 1383

overcome obstacles, find success, and fulfill their potential. Kosair Charities' reach 1
extends to all 120 Kentucky counties and to more than 200,000 children annually; and 2
WHEREAS, as part of its centennial anniversary, Kosair Charities will transition its 3
name to Kosair for Kids, thus stating plainly and emphatically its vision of serving as a 4
catalyst to help children in need to live life to the fullest; 5
NOW, THEREFORE, 6
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the 7
Commonwealth of Kentucky: 8
Section 1. The members of the House of Representatives hereby honor Kosair 9
Charities and commemorate the contributions it has made for 100 years to Kentucky's 10
children. 11
Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in 12
honor of Kosair Charities and its 100 years of service to Kentucky children. 13
Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a 14
copy of this Resolution to Speaker David Osborne for delivery to Kosair Charities. 15
