UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 1067 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 1/26/2023 10:47 AM Jacketed AN ACT relating to temporary elevator mechanic licenses. 1 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 2 ď˘Section 1. KRS 198B.4021 is amended to read as follows: 3 (1) An elevator contractor shall notify the department when the contractor has a 4 shortage of licensed personnel available, due to a reduction in licensed elevator 5 mechanics employed by the contractor or an increase in work, to perform elevator 6 work. The elevator contractor may request that the department issue temporary 7 elevator mechanic licenses to persons confirmed by the licensed elevator contractor 8 to have a combination of a minimum of twenty-four (24) months' documented 9 experience and education as part of: 10 (a) A state-certified apprenticeship educational program; 11 (b) A training program provided by the National Elevator Industry Educational 12 Program or the National Association of Elevator Contractors; or 13 (c) Applicable military occupational specialty experience while serving in the 14 United States Armed Forces, including but not limited to aviation repair or 15 maintenance, electronic systems repair or maintenance, or hydraulic 16 systems repair or maintenance[Equivalent experience while serving in the 17 United States military services]; 18 to perform elevator work without direct and immediate supervision, not to exceed 19 twenty-five percent (25%) of the number of licensed personnel employed by the 20 elevator contractor. 21 (2) Any person confirmed by an elevator contractor to have a combination of a 22 minimum of twenty-four (24) months' documented experience and education as 23 described in subsection (1) of this section[part of: 24 (a) A state-certified apprenticeship educational program; 25 (b) A training program provided by the National Elevator Industry Educational 26 Program or the National Association of Elevator Contractors; or 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 1067 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 1/26/2023 10:47 AM Jacketed (c) Equivalent experience while serving in the United States military services; 1 to perform elevator work without direct and immediate supervision] shall be 2 eligible to immediately seek a temporary elevator mechanic license from the 3 department. 4 (3) Each temporary license shall be valid for a period of one (1) year and only while the 5 licensee is employed by the licensed elevator contractor that confirmed the 6 individual as qualified. 7 (4) The temporary license shall be renewable for one (1) additional term of one (1) 8 year. 9
