UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 1071 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 2/20/2023 9:56 AM Jacketed A JOINT RESOLUTION designating the Officer Logan Medlock Memorial Bridge 1 in Laurel County. 2 WHEREAS, on October 30, 2022, London City Police Department (LCPD) Officer 3 Logan Medlock was tragically killed in the line of duty when an impaired driver in a 4 pickup truck ran into the driver's side of his police cruiser; and 5 WHEREAS, Logan Medlock, a graduate of North Laurel High School, began 6 working as an LCPD officer after he graduated from the Department of Criminal Justice 7 Training on January 23, 2020; and 8 WHEREAS, Officer Logan Medlock, who was honored by the LCPD with the 9 Meritorious Service Award in 2021, was dedicated to his community and was known to 10 have the heart of a servant; and 11 WHEREAS, Officer Logan Medlock won the Governor's Award for Impaired 12 Driving Enforcement in 2022, but was tragically killed by an impaired driver before he 13 could receive the award; and 14 WHEREAS, Officer Logan Medlock was described by LCPD Chief Chuck Johnson 15 as "an exemplary police officer and an outstanding young man who had a bright future 16 ahead of him and would have no doubt risen through the ranks of the department"; and 17 WHEREAS, the death of Officer Logan Medlock was especially painful for the 18 department because his father, Randy Medlock, is a major with the LCPD, and Officer 19 Logan Medlock's lifelong dream was to follow in his father's footsteps and become a 20 police officer; and 21 WHEREAS, Officer Logan Medlock was a volunteer with the Keavy Fire 22 Department and a member of Greater Life Fellowship Church; and 23 WHEREAS, the words of ministers officiating his memorial service were that 24 Officer Logan Medlock's life was a short life in human measurements, but it was a life 25 lived to the fullest; and 26 WHEREAS, Officer Logan Medlock is survived by his loving wife, Courtney; his 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 1071 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 2/20/2023 9:56 AM Jacketed son, Brantley; his father and step-mother, Randy and Cherish Medlock; his mother and 1 step-father, Donna and Mark Eldridge; his brother, Peyton Eldridge, and a host of other 2 family and friends who mourn his passing; and 3 WHEREAS, LCPD Chief Chuck Johnson has expressed support for designating a 4 bridge in honor and memory of Officer Logan Medlock; and 5 WHEREAS, the service and sacrifice of Officer Logan Medlock is eminently 6 worthy of tangible public recognition; 7 NOW, THEREFORE, 8 Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 9 ď˘Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate the bridge on Kentucky 10 Route 192 in Laurel County, over Interstate 75 (Bridge Number 063B00106N), mile 11 point 18.257, as the "Officer Logan Medlock Memorial Bridge" and shall, within 30 days 12 of the effective date of this Resolution, erect appropriate signs denoting this designation. 13
