A RESOLUTION recognizing Chief Jeffrey O. Liles of the Murray Police 1 
Department on the occasion of his retirement. 2 
WHEREAS, Jeffrey O. Liles is a longtime resident of the City of Murray, 3 
Kentucky, having graduated from Murray State University in 1990; and 4 
WHEREAS, Jeffrey O. Liles joined the Murray Police Department in 1991 as a 5 
patrol officer, and through his distinguished service, advanced through the department, 6 
serving as Sergeant, Captain, Major, and Assistant Chief, until he was appointed Chief in 7 
August of 2010; and 8 
WHEREAS, Jeffrey O. Liles had the distinction of being one of the longest-serving 9 
police chiefs in the history of the Murray Police Department; and 10 
WHEREAS, Jeffrey O. Liles's professional achievements include being a graduate 11 
of the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training's Criminal Justice Executive 12 
Development Course Class X; serving with the National Organization of Black Law 13 
Enforcement Executives; serving on the executive board of the Kentucky Association of 14 
Chiefs of Police; being a member of the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council; serving on 15 
the Kentucky League of Cities Board of Directors; and being a member of the Kentucky 16 
Four Rivers Crisis Intervention Team Advisory Council; and 17 
WHEREAS, Jeffrey O. Liles was awarded the prestigious Chief of the Year award 18 
by the Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police in 2023; and 19 
WHEREAS, Jeffrey O. Liles's limitless dedication to the people of Murray and to 20 
the staff of his department is known throughout the length and breadth of this 21 
Commonwealth; and 22 
WHEREAS, the high esteem in which Jeffrey O. Liles is held by his community 23 
and department is equally well known; and 24 
WHEREAS, Jeffrey O. Liles announced his retirement from the City of Murray 25 
Police Department as Chief of Police effective February 1, 2023, bringing to a conclusion 26 
an honorable career of service protecting the citizens and visitors of the City of Murray, 27  UNOFFICIAL COPY  	23 RS BR 1775

NOW, THEREFORE, 2 
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 3 
Kentucky: 4 
Section 1.   The Senate does hereby recognize and commend Jeffrey O. Liles of 5 
the City of Murray Police Department for an outstanding and honorable career and 6 
extends its best wishes for a well-deserved retirement. 7 
Section 2.   When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Jeffrey O. 8 
Liles. 9 
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 10 
Resolution to Senator Jason Howell for presentation to Jeffrey O. Liles. 11
