UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 1651 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 3/3/2023 1:26 PM Jacketed A RESOLUTION recognizing the safety, efficiency, and other benefits of gas range 1 stovetops. 2 WHEREAS, gas stoves were first sold around 1836, and they offered numerous 3 advantages over then-popular wood and coal stoves, including that gas stoves were 4 significantly smaller, easier to clean, did not need constant tending, and drastically 5 reduced indoor air pollution; and 6 WHEREAS, gas stoves continued to increase in popularity, and by the 1930s, gas 7 stoves outnumbered other styles of stoves by about two to one; and 8 WHEREAS, the stove is considered one of the most important appliances in a 9 household, and in many states, gas stoves still represent the majority of household stoves; 10 and 11 WHEREAS, there are many recognized benefits to gas ranges and ovens, including 12 quick ignition times, fast and efficient cooking, better temperature control than other 13 types of ranges, and quicker range-top cooling times after the range is no longer in use; 14 and 15 WHEREAS, gas ranges are typically more durable, inexpensive, and energy- and 16 cost-efficient than their electric counterparts, and they will work during power outages, 17 unlike electric ranges and ovens; and 18 WHEREAS, gas range stovetops have been used and enjoyed in many homes and 19 restaurants across the Commonwealth for decades, and they will continue to be used and 20 enjoyed in those homes and restaurants for many years to come; 21 NOW, THEREFORE, 22 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 23 Kentucky: 24 Section 1. The Senate recognizes the safety, efficiency, and other benefits of 25 gas range stovetops. 26 Section 2.
