A RESOLUTION recognizing the safety, efficiency, and other benefits of gas range 1
stovetops. 2
WHEREAS, gas stoves were first sold around 1836, and they offered numerous 3
advantages over then-popular wood and coal stoves, including that gas stoves were 4
significantly smaller, easier to clean, did not need constant tending, and drastically 5
reduced indoor air pollution; and 6
WHEREAS, gas stoves continued to increase in popularity, and by the 1930s, gas 7
stoves outnumbered other styles of stoves by about two to one; and 8
WHEREAS, the stove is considered one of the most important appliances in a 9
household, and in many states, gas stoves still represent the majority of household stoves; 10
and 11
WHEREAS, there are many recognized benefits to gas ranges and ovens, including 12
quick ignition times, fast and efficient cooking, better temperature control than other 13
types of ranges, and quicker range-top cooling times after the range is no longer in use; 14
and 15
WHEREAS, gas ranges are typically more durable, inexpensive, and energy- and 16
cost-efficient than their electric counterparts, and they will work during power outages, 17
unlike electric ranges and ovens; and 18
WHEREAS, gas range stovetops have been used and enjoyed in many homes and 19
restaurants across the Commonwealth for decades, and they will continue to be used and 20
enjoyed in those homes and restaurants for many years to come; 21
NOW, THEREFORE, 22
