A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of John 1 
Joseph "Jack" Schickel. 2 
WHEREAS, John Joseph "Jack" Schickel was born in Detroit, Michigan, on May 3 
14, 1926, to the late Norbert and Mari Malone-Schickel, and grew up in Ithaca, New 4 
York, where he was a graduate of Ithaca High School; and 5 
WHEREAS, upon graduation, Jack Schickel served in the United States Navy 6 
during World War II until he received an honorable discharge in 1946; and 7 
WHEREAS, Jack Schickel was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical 8 
Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1952, and became a licensed 9 
professional engineer with Detroit Diesel, a division of General Motors; and 10 
WHEREAS, after a long career with General Motors, Jack Schickel founded 11 
Schickel Home Builders and purchased American Speedy Printing franchises; and 12 
WHEREAS, Jack Schickel was an avid traveler, a lover of water sports, and 13 
dedicated to pursuing hobbies with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; 14 
and 15 
WHEREAS, Jack Schickel departed from this earthly life on March 15, 2022; and 16 
WHEREAS, Jack Schickel was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jane. He is 17 
survived by his wife, Bettie; four children; seven grandchildren; and nine great-18 
grandchildren; and 19 
WHEREAS, John Joseph "Jack" Schickel was a devoted family man who will be 20 
missed dearly by all who knew him; 21 
NOW, THEREFORE, 22 
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 23 
Kentucky: 24 
Section 1. The Senate hereby extends its most profound sympathy upon the 25 
passing of John Joseph "Jack" Schickel, and expresses heartfelt condolences to his family 26

Section 2.   When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving 1 
memory of John Joseph "Jack" Schickel. 2
