UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 1799 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 3/8/2023 8:54 AM Jacketed A RESOLUTION commemorating and honoring the life of Juanita Hughes Nolan. 1 WHEREAS, Juanita Hughes Nolan was born on June 8, 1938, in Lexington, 2 Kentucky, to John Andrew Hughes and Mary Saggesser Hughes; and 3 WHEREAS, Juanita Hughes Nolan graduated early from Henry Clay High School 4 in 1955, with honors; and 5 WHEREAS, Juanita Hughes Nolan went on to begin a successful career as a 6 bookkeeper. She became a secretary to the comptroller at Square D, a nationwide 7 electrical plant in Lexington; and 8 WHEREAS, Juanita Hughes Nolan married her husband, James Frank Nolan Jr., on 9 November 27, 1958, before the couple moved to Manchester, Kentucky, in 1960; and 10 WHEREAS, Juanita Hughes Nolan was a devout Christian, teaching children's 11 Sunday School at Manchester Christian Church for 40 years. She also served two years as 12 the church's secretary to the treasurer; and 13 WHEREAS, Juanita Hughes Nolan was a very active member of her community, 14 serving as the President of the Younger Woman's Club and the Clay County 15 Parent/Teacher Organization, as well as being a member of Kentucky Homemakers and 16 an assistant Girl Scout Leader. She also graciously contributed her time to a number of 17 other community volunteer projects; and 18 WHEREAS, Juanita Hughes Nolan enjoyed many hobbies, including working 19 jigsaw puzzles and identifying wildflowers. She was also an avid reader and, over the 20 years, had developed an extensive home library; and 21 WHEREAS, Juanita Hughes Nolan had a spirit for adventure and loved to travel. 22 She had visited all 50 states as well as Canada, Costa Rica, and several European 23 countries; and 24 WHEREAS, Juanita Hughes Nolan and her husband, James, moved to Inverness, 25 Florida, in 2014, where they remained until her passing; and 26 WHEREAS, Juanita Hughes Nolan departed this earthly life on March 3, 2023; and 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 1799 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 3/8/2023 8:54 AM Jacketed WHEREAS, Juanita Hughes Nolan was preceded in death by her parents; her 1 sisters, Nancy and Pearl; and her brother, Harold; and 2 WHEREAS, Juanita Hughes Nolan is survived by her husband of 63 years, James; 3 two sons, James F. Nolan III and Joseph Mark Nolan; two grandchildren, Dr. Nicole 4 Nolan and James Andrew Russell Nolan; and a host of other relatives and friends; 5 NOW, THEREFORE, 6 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 7 Kentucky: 8 Section 1. The members of the Senate, both individually and collectively, 9 hereby express their most profound sense of sorrow and proffer their sincerest 10 condolences to the family and friends of Juanita Hughes Nolan. 11 Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 12 Resolution to Senate President Robert Stivers for delivery to the family. 13
