A RESOLUTION honoring Diane Whalen upon the occasion of her retirement as 1
mayor of the City of Florence. 2
WHEREAS, Diane Whalen has committed 26 years of her life in service to the City 3
of Florence; and 4
WHEREAS, Diane Whalen began serving the City of Florence in 1997 as vice 5
mayor; and 6
WHEREAS, Diane Whalen has served as mayor of the City of Florence since she 7
was first elected in 1999; and 8
WHEREAS, Diane Whalen has received multiple awards in relation to her service 9
to the City of Florence. In 2022, she was presented with the Northern Kentucky Chamber 10
Community Award. She has also been named an Outstanding Local Elected Official of 11
Northern Kentucky as well as an Outstanding Woman of Northern Kentucky; and 12
WHEREAS, Diane Whalen has been active with many civic groups throughout 13
northern Kentucky. In addition to serving on the Governor's Blue Ribbon Task Force on 14
Transforming Education in Kentucky and the Kentucky Workforce Investment Board, she 15
served on the Executive Committee for the Kentucky League of Cities, the Northern 16
Kentucky Area Development District, the Municipal Government League of Northern 17
Kentucky, and the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments Board of 18
Directors. She also served on the Presidential Search and Screening Committee for 19
Northern Kentucky University; and 20
WHEREAS, under Mayor Diane Whalen's leadership, thousands of jobs have been 21
created and over $3 billion in capital investment have taken place in the City of Florence. 22
The City of Florence has also opened a skate park, a minor league baseball stadium, and 23
redeveloped the Florence World of Golf and mini-golf course. The City of Florence has 24
also obtained a Community Development Block Grant to assist in the construction of the 25
Deanna and Hugh Skees Senior Activity Center; and 26
WHEREAS, Diane Whalen has provided exemplary service to the citizens of 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 365

Florence and, as a result of her leadership, the city is one of the fastest growing cities in 1
Kentucky and has defined itself as a community interested in quality of life and 2
opportunities for their residents and corporate citizens; 3
NOW, THEREFORE, 4
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 5
Kentucky: 6
Section 1. The members of the Senate recognize the importance and dedication 7
it takes to be a public servant and commends Diane Whalen for her 26 years serving the 8
citizens of Florence. 9
Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 10
Resolution to Diane Whalen, 6419 Parkwood Place, Florence, Kentucky 41042. 11
