UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 987 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 1/4/2023 3:21 PM Jacketed A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Hanan 1 "Henry" Spilman Berg-Brousseau. 2 WHEREAS, Hanan "Henry" Spilman Berg-Brousseau was born in Louisville, 3 Kentucky, and graduated from Louisville Collegiate School, where he was awarded 4 Collegiate's Outstanding High School Senior in 2016; and 5 WHEREAS, even as a high school student, Henry was a champion for LGBTQ+ 6 rights, and in 2015 he received the Butterfly Award from the Women's Center at 7 Louisville's Presbyterian Theological Seminary in recognition of his advocacy for the 8 transgender community, which included advocacy before the General Assembly; and 9 WHEREAS, Henry attended George Washington University, where he double 10 majored in History and Political Science with a minor in Jewish Studies; and 11 WHEREAS, Henry was George Washington University's founding member of 12 Delta Lambda Phi, an LGBTQ+ fraternity, and an active member of the Stonewall 13 Kickball DC; and 14 WHEREAS, Henry graduated from George Washington University in 2021 and 15 became Deputy Press Secretary for the Human Rights Campaign in Washington, DC, 16 which is one of the nation's largest LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations; and 17 WHEREAS, Henry worked tirelessly to help make his communities and the world a 18 safe and accepting place for all, his voice for change will be missed and not forgotten; 19 and 20 WHEREAS, Henry passed from this earthly life on December 16, 2022; and 21 WHEREAS, Henry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Pearl and Harold 22 Berg and Robert and Mary Brousseau; and is survived by his parents Senator Karen Berg 23 and Bob Brousseau; his sister Rachel Pass; his nanny, Odessa Riley; his uncle David 24 Brousseau; his aunts Amy Berg, Dena Nelson, and Lauren Berg; and his beloved dog, 25 Bibi; and 26 WHEREAS, Henry will be remembered for his drive to make this world a more 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 987 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 1/4/2023 3:21 PM Jacketed accepting place, his ambition to use communications and politics as a force for positive 1 change, and his eagerness to make everyone around him feel loved; 2 NOW, THEREFORE, 3 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 4 Kentucky: 5 Section 1. The Senate hereby expresses its most profound sympathy upon the 6 passing of Hanan "Henry" Spilman Berg-Brousseau. 7 Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving 8 memory of Hanan "Henry" Spilman Berg-Brousseau. 9
