A RESOLUTION honoring Jim Tuman and his work and service to youth. 1
WHEREAS, Jim Tuman is an internationally known and regarded youth advocate 2
and motivational speaker; and 3
WHEREAS, more than 40 years ago, Jim Tuman was one of the very first youth 4
speakers and a trailblazer in talking with youth about suicide and depression; and 5
WHEREAS, Jim's Tuman's childhood experiences and struggles, including his own 6
multiple suicide attempts, led to his life's mission of making a positive difference in 7
children's lives; and 8
WHEREAS, Jim Tuman has spoken to more than two million students in more than 9
2,000 schools nationwide to help them cope with the issues of bullying, teen suicide, and 10
alienation; and 11
WHEREAS, Jim Tuman has appeared on broadcast television, been featured in 12
several leading publications, and has received over 30 state and national awards for 13
service performance; and 14
WHEREAS, Jim Tuman's speaking career led to the creation of many programs 15
designed to give young people an opportunity to discuss the challenges in their lives; and 16
WHEREAS, one of the programs created was Jimmy's Kids, an organization that 17
helps high-need children receive toys, food, and holiday wishes; and 18
WHEREAS, Jimmy's Kids has grown from helping 22 children at its first Christmas 19
party in 1989 to a program that serves thousands of children at school, church, and 20
neighborhood association sites with the help of hundreds of volunteers; and 21
WHEREAS, Jim Tuman continues his mission of showing and encouraging 22
kindness every day and delivering his timeless message of hope, love, and healing to 23
youth across the nation; 24
NOW, THEREFORE, 25
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 26

Section 1. The Senate commends Jim Tuman for his many years of devotion 1
and sacrifice to make a positive difference in the untold lives of young people and their 2
families. 3
Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Jim Tuman. 4
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 5
