A RESOLUTION recognizing Hannah Edelen, Miss Kentucky 2022. 1
WHEREAS, Hannah Edelen is a Springfield native, public-school teacher, and 2
2022 Miss Kentucky; and 3
WHEREAS, Hannah Edelen is a proud graduate of Washington County High 4
School, where she was enrolled in the Governor's Scholars Program; and 5
WHEREAS, Hannah Edelen became the first member of her family to graduate 6
from college, earning a bachelor of arts in communication studies and history with 7
minors in honors and organizational leadership from Northern Kentucky University 8
(NKU); and 9
WHEREAS, Hannah Edelen was involved in numerous roles and organizations, 10
including student body president, member of the NKU Board of Regents, Inaugural 11
Presidential Fellow, Kappa Delta chapter officer, and many others; and 12
WHEREAS, Hannah Edelen worked to serve her state and community at the city, 13
state, and federal level within government as a Covington Communications intern, a state 14
General Assembly intern, and Public Policy Congressional intern; and 15
WHEREAS, Hannah Edelen began teaching 6th grade social studies for the 16
Covington Independent School system while completing her master's in education for 17
policy and evaluation at the University of Kentucky; and 18
WHEREAS, Hannah Edelen is currently a doctoral student, extending her graduate 19
work, and was recently elected to the Covington Schools Board of Education as the 20
youngest member to ever be elected to the position; and 21
WHEREAS, Hannah Edelen plans to introduce on the Miss America stage the 22
"Read Ready Initiative," which is inspired by her personal story of how education and 23
reading were transformative in her life; and 24
WHEREAS, Hannah Edelen hosted the first "Red Apple Equi-Tea Party" that 25
raised funds for Covington's local reading efforts, and held book drives, partnered with 26

with Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana; and 1
WHEREAS, Hannah Edelen's love for literacy and teaching has inspired her to 2
work as a children's book author, which led to the publishing of her first children's story 3
and a collaboration with Kentucky Proud to publish a story about agriculture and 4
Kentucky farmers; and 5
WHEREAS, Hannah Edelen will serve as the official spokesperson for the 6
Kentucky Proud initiative, with which she will travel the state encouraging kids and 7
consumers to support Kentucky agriculture; 8
NOW, THEREFORE, 9
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 10
Kentucky: 11
Section 1. The Senate herby honors Hannah Edelen, Miss Kentucky 2022, for 12
her current and future contributions to her community and the Commonwealth of 13
Kentucky and grants her best wishes for her future. 14
Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 15
Resolution to Senator Jimmy Higdon. 16
