AN ACT relating to school boards and declaring an emergency. 1
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 2
Section 1. KRS 160.280 is amended to read as follows: 3
(1) Members of boards of education shall receive no salaries, but members of boards of 4
education may receive, for each day a regular or special meeting is attended, a per 5
diem of one hundred fifty dollars ($150) and their actual expenses. Members shall 6
receive this same per diem for training required by KRS 160.180. In no case shall 7
the expenses incurred within the district or per diem of any member exceed 8
eight[six] thousand dollars ($8,000[$6,000]) in any calendar year. 9
(2) Members of boards of education may be reimbursed for actual and necessary 10
expenditures incurred outside the district in the performance of their duties 11
authorized by the board. 12
(3) All claims shall be made out according to law and filed with the secretary of the 13
board and shall be approved and paid as other claims against the board. 14
(4) Board members shall be eligible to participate in any group medical or dental 15
insurance plan provided to employees of the district pursuant to KRS 161.158. 16
Participating board members shall pay the full cost of any premium required for 17
their participation in the plan. 18
Section 2. Whereas it is necessary to ensure that members of local boards are 19
adequately reimbursed for expenses incurred in the performance of their duties, an 20
emergency is declared and this Act takes effect July 1, 2024. 21
