UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 2328 Page 1 of 1 XXXX 2/26/2024 4:01 PM Jacketed A JOINT RESOLUTION designating the Simpson Martin Memorial Bridge in 1 Floyd County. 2 WHEREAS, Simpson Martin was born in March 1816, in Floyd County, Kentucky, 3 to James Gilbert and Millie Martin Martin; and 4 WHEREAS, Simpson Martin married Elizabeth Turner in October 1841, and they 5 went on to have the following children together, Juda, James, Matilda Millie, Simpson 6 "Boy," Marry "Popy," Sarah "Sallie," and Hannah; and 7 WHEREAS, Simpson Martin was notable for being the first owner of Simpson 8 Branch in Floyd County, Kentucky, which he acquired through land grants as early as 9 1848; and 10 WHEREAS, Simpson Martin passed away sometime in 1901 at Simpson Branch, 11 Drift, Floyd County, Kentucky, and is now buried alongside his wife, Elizabeth, and 12 several members of his family at James Martin Cemetery on Simpson Branch; and 13 WHEREAS, in recognition of Simpson Martin's efforts in developing Floyd County 14 and his impact on friends and family, it is appropriate that his life be memorialized in 15 some tangible manner; 16 NOW, THEREFORE, 17 Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 18 ď˘Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate the bridge on Kentucky 19 680 at mile point 5.4 in Floyd County (Bridge ID #036B00157N) as the "Simpson Martin 20 Memorial Bridge" and shall, within 30 days of the effective date of this Resolution, erect 21 appropriate signs denoting this designation. 22
