A RESOLUTION recognizing February 27, 2024 as Disabilities Awareness Day in 1
Kentucky. 2
WHEREAS, more than 874,000 Kentuckians over the age of five have a disability 3
that impairs their ability to work or to carry out tasks of daily living; and 4
WHEREAS, Kentuckians with disabilities must be able to access the services and 5
supports they need to become active, participating members of their communities; and 6
WHEREAS, these individuals with disabilities and their circles of support need to 7
be informed so they can exercise their freedom to make choices, direct their own care, 8
and live in the communities or settings of their choice; and 9
WHEREAS, individuals with disabilities should be given the education and 10
opportunity to gain and maintain employment and to become taxpayers; and 11
WHEREAS, individuals with disabilities should not be criminalized or 12
discriminated against because of their disability; and 13
WHEREAS, all individuals with disabilities matter and should be afforded the 14
opportunity to participate in the democratic decision-making process; and 15
WHEREAS, the United 874K Disabilities Coalition is joining with Advocates for 16
Reforming Medicaid Services to bring forth the voices of Kentuckians with disabilities; 17
NOW, THEREFORE, 18
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the 19
Commonwealth of Kentucky: 20
SECTION 1. The members of the House of Representatives hereby recognize 21
February 27, 2024, as Disabilities Awareness Day in Kentucky in order to promote an 22
awareness of disabilities and a strong commitment to provide services and supports to all 23
Kentuckians with disabilities. 24
SECTION 2. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit 25
a copy of this Resolution to Representative Rachel Roarx for delivery. 26
