A RESOLUTION designating October 2024 as National Arts and Humanities 1
Month in Kentucky. 2
WHEREAS, National Arts and Humanities Month is a collective recognition of the 3
importance of history and culture in America; and 4
WHEREAS, National Arts and Humanities Month was launched by Americans for 5
the Arts more than 30 years ago as National Arts Week in honor of the twentieth 6
anniversary of the National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the 7
Humanities; and 8
WHEREAS, in 1993, Americans for the Arts began the tradition of honoring all the 9
artists whose work has captured and told the story of the unique and diverse soul of our 10
nation in a month-long celebration; and 11
WHEREAS, cities and states, through their agencies and organizations, have 12
celebrated the value and importance of culture in the lives of Americans, and the health 13
of thriving communities during National Arts and Humanities Month; and 14
WHEREAS, arts and humanities enhance and enrich the lives of American families 15
and communities across all 50 states; and 16
WHEREAS, arts and humanities attract creative industries to developing cities and 17
communities, creating tourism, jobs, and economic prosperity; 18
NOW, THEREFORE, 19
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the 20
Commonwealth of Kentucky: 21
Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby recognize October 2024 22
as National Arts and Humanities Month in Kentucky. 23
Section 2. The House of Representatives supports participation in the arts, and 24
recognizes Kentucky's creative culture is essential to the Commonwealth's economy, 25
tourism, and community life, and is crucial to a thriving future. 26
