UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 1393 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 1/2/2024 4:27 PM Jacketed A RESOLUTION recognizing the last day of February, the day connecting Black 1 and Women's History Months, as a day to honor Black women. 2 WHEREAS, this body takes this moment to honor Black women; and 3 WHEREAS, Black women have joined forces with Native American, Asian, 4 Hispanic, Caucasian, European, and African women, and women from all over the world 5 to empower all women; and 6 WHEREAS, Black women have shaped America's history; and 7 WHEREAS, Black women have been the foundation of the Black community and 8 the Black church; and 9 WHEREAS, Black women have faced many obstacles and consistently have shown 10 up in the world fully, with beauty, authenticity, and inspiration; and 11 WHEREAS, Black women have historically been champions for all people and 12 races; and 13 WHEREAS, Black women seek out oppression anywhere it exists and are 14 champions for civil rights and a world that works for all people; and 15 WHEREAS, we celebrate "mama" and the ancestors who taught Black women to 16 be strong, resourceful, and to do good for the greater good; and 17 WHEREAS, Black women are experts at making lemonade out of life's lemons; and 18 WHEREAS, Black women have excelled in all areas of life, from art, government, 19 math and science, business, farming, teaching, and family; from Shirley Chisholm, Lucy 20 French, and Harriet Tubman, to Kamala Harris, Georgia Powers, Mae Street Kidd, and to 21 the unknown Black women who gave their all; and 22 WHEREAS, Black women are boldly taking this Commonwealth where it has not 23 gone before; and 24 WHEREAS, the last day of February connects the celebratory months of Black 25 History and Women's History and symbolically represents the intersection of being Black 26 and a woman; 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 1393 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 1/2/2024 4:27 PM Jacketed NOW, THEREFORE, 1 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the 2 Commonwealth of Kentucky: 3 Section 1. The House of Representatives hereby recognizes the last day of 4 February as a day that honors the contributions, beauty, power, and grace of Black 5 women. 6 Section 2. The House of Representatives urges all citizens of the 7 Commonwealth of Kentucky to honor Black women by acknowledging and celebrating 8 the brilliance, beauty, and boldness of those women in their communities. 9 Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a 10 copy of this Resolution to Representative Pamela Stevenson. 11
