A JOINT RESOLUTION designating the Reverend C.E. Jacobs Memorial Bridge 1
in Pulaski County. 2
WHEREAS, Clealus E. (C.E.) Jacobs was born on August 27, 1931, in 3
Waynesburg, Lincoln County, Kentucky, to Ernie and Ocie Faw Jacobs; and 4
WHEREAS, C.E. Jacobs graduated from Waynesburg High School in 1950, 5
continuing his studies at Campbellsville Junior College and Georgetown College from 6
1952 to 1957; and 7
WHEREAS, C.E. Jacobs first became a Christian at the age of eleven, putting him 8
on the path to answering God's call to gospel ministry at the age of 20 in 1951; and 9
WHEREAS, the Reverend C.E. Jacobs served as pastor of several churches across 10
Kentucky and Ohio between the years of 1953 and 1996, including 24 years at Pleasant 11
Hill Baptist Church in Somerset, Kentucky; and 12
WHEREAS, during his time as pastor, the Reverend C.E. Jacobs was very active in 13
mission work, including serving as interim director of missions for the Pulaski Baptist 14
Association; and 15
WHEREAS, after his retirement from full-time preaching in 1996, the Reverend 16
C.E. Jacobs continued his service to the Lord by serving as interim pastor in various 17
south-central Kentucky churches and continuing his mission trips abroad to nations such 18
as Nigeria; and 19
WHEREAS, the Reverend C.E. Jacobs married Frances Jenkins of Somerset, and 20
they would remain married for 70 years until his passing; and 21
WHEREAS, the Reverend C.E. Jacobs and Frances Jenkins had three daughters 22
together, Kathy (Eddie) Griffin, Sue (Jerry) Clauch, and Jeanette (Virgil) Parker, who in 23
turn gave them five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and 24
WHEREAS, the Reverend C.E. Jacobs died on September 23, 2020, in Somerset, 25
Kentucky, at the age of 89, and is now buried in the Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in 26
Waynesburg, Lincoln County, Kentucky; and 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 1788

WHEREAS, this bridge designation will serve as a tangible reminder of the 1
Reverend C.E. Jacobs' life and impact on his local community and parishioners; 2
NOW, THEREFORE, 3
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 4
ď˘Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate the bridge on Kentucky 5
Route 3091 crossing the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway in Pulaski County (Bridge 6
Number 100B00121N) as the "Reverend C.E. Jacobs Memorial Bridge," and shall, within 7
30 days of the effective date of this Resolution, erect appropriate signs denoting this 8
designation. 9
