A RESOLUTION proclaiming March 28, 2024, as The Garden Club of Frankfort 1
Day on its 100th anniversary. 2
WHEREAS, on March 28, 1924, 11 women, led by Mrs. Elizabeth (Augustus) 3
Thomas, Ms. Lilian Lindsey, and Ms. Cordelia Lindsey, formed The Garden Club of 4
Frankfort; and 5
WHEREAS, the organization was created to "stimulate knowledge and love of 6
gardening among amateurs; to share the advantage of association through conference and 7
correspondence in this country and abroad; to aid in the protection of native plants and 8
birds, and to encourage civic beauty and planting"; and 9
WHEREAS, The Garden Club of Frankfort is a volunteer-based nonprofit 10
organization that seeks knowledge and expertise in horticulture, environmental 11
conservation, and floral design, and shares these skills with its members and the 12
community; and 13
WHEREAS, The Garden Club of Frankfort has dedicated 100 years to help 14
Frankfort, Franklin County, and the Commonwealth of Kentucky improve the 15
environment by planting thousands of trees, shrubs, and flowers, removing invasive 16
plants, providing gardening education to youth, and creating public gardens at schools, 17
parks, and community areas; and 18
WHEREAS, The Garden Club of Frankfort is a leader in community efforts 19
focused on the protection and restoration of landmarks and natural areas such as the 20
Frankfort Cemetery Chapel and Cove Spring Park, the creation of the public byway on 21
Wilkinson Boulevard, and the revitalization of vacant lots and public parks areas. The 22
club also educates the community on the need to protect the ecosystem by planting native 23
plants and trees; and 24
WHEREAS, The Garden Club of Frankfort funds community beautification 25
projects through the annual "Living in History" Home and Garden Tour and the 26

NOW, THEREFORE, 1
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 2
Kentucky: 3
Section 1. The Senate hereby proclaims March 28, 2024, to be The Garden 4
Club of Frankfort Day in Kentucky. 5
Section 2. The Senate congratulates The Garden Club of Frankfort on its 100th 6
anniversary, and commends it for 100 years of service in gardening education, 7
conservation, and civic improvement in the community. 8
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 9
Resolution to Senator Stephen West for delivery to The Garden Club of Frankfort. 10
