A RESOLUTION designating March 3 to 9, 2024, as School Social Work Week in 1
the Commonwealth of Kentucky. 2
WHEREAS, School Social Work Week is marked on the first full week of March to 3
celebrate school social workers across the nation, and to appreciate their work in helping 4
students achieve academic success; and 5
WHEREAS, school social workers are professionals within the social work field 6
who partner with teachers, parents, and school administrators to help students deal with 7
mental health and behavioral challenges and provide academic and classroom support; 8
and 9
WHEREAS, school social work began in the early 20th century with visiting 10
teachers getting involved in improving student attendance and building close 11
relationships between home and school; and 12
WHEREAS, the growing number of visiting teachers led to the establishment of the 13
National Association of Visiting Teachers, which was eventually renamed the School 14
Social Work Association of America; and 15
WHEREAS, today the Kentucky Association for School Social Work endeavors to 16
promote school social work practitioners' growth and professional development, ensure 17
that the highest standards of professional school social work practices are upheld, and 18
promote the effective use of school social work services for students and their families 19
throughout the Commonwealth; 20
NOW, THEREFORE, 21
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 22
Kentucky: 23
Section 1. The Senate hereby designates March 3 to 9, 2024, as School Social 24
Work Week in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. 25
Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 26
Resolution to Senator Amanda Mays Bledsoe. 27
