UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 2441 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 3/6/2024 1:09 PM Jacketed A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Joann 1 Mefford Schrader. 2 WHEREAS, Joann Mefford Schrader was born on April 11, 1938, in Frankfort, 3 Kentucky, to William Elias and Mamie Mefford; and 4 WHEREAS, Joann Mefford Schrader graduated from Peaks Mill High School and 5 went on to have an accomplished career, including working for the Louisville 6 Homebuilders Association and Sturm Insurance Agency; and 7 WHEREAS, Joann Mefford Schrader possessed an intrepid entrepreneurial spirit, 8 becoming a co-owner of 4S Prototype Machine Shop and eventually starting her own 9 insurance agency; and 10 WHEREAS, in 1992, Joann Mefford Schrader discovered her passion working in 11 the Legislative Research Commission, from which she retired with well over 20 years of 12 service to the Kentucky General Assembly. She was the embodiment of a great 13 legislative assistant and was both loved and respected by her colleagues; and 14 WHEREAS, soon after joining LRC, Joann Mefford Schrader earned a reputation 15 for her impeccable fashion sense, designing and coordinating outfits that she sewed 16 herself; and 17 WHEREAS, Joann Mefford Schrader loved her LRC family, affectionately 18 referring to the senators that she frequently worked with as "her boys." She enjoyed 19 collecting with great care years of saved Christmas, birthday, and get-well cards, along 20 with a treasured personal note from President Bill Clinton and a personally signed 21 Christmas card from the president of her favorite store, Talbots; and 22 WHEREAS, Joann Mefford Schrader was a devoted grandmother with boundless 23 love for her grandchildren, spending countless hours fishing with them on the banks of 24 the Elkhorn Creek and attending soccer, basketball, track, and cheerleading events 25 without fail; and 26 WHEREAS, Joann Mefford Schrader was a great lover of travel, and among her 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 2441 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 3/6/2024 1:09 PM Jacketed many adventures, she twice explored the Western United States via camper, frequently 1 noting "the beauty of God’s creation" at scenic locales such as Grant Teton National 2 Park; and 3 WHEREAS, Joann Mefford Schrader was dedicated to her faith and was a lifelong 4 member of Peaks Mill Christian Church, teaching ladies’ Sunday school classes for many 5 years and volunteering over the course of several summers at Camp Calvary, where many 6 individuals made professions of faith and were baptized; and 7 WHEREAS, on March 1, 2024, Joann Mefford Schrader traversed these earthly 8 bounds in certain hope of entering into the loving embrace of her Lord and Savior. She 9 will be deeply missed by all who knew her; and 10 WHEREAS, Joann Mefford Schrader is survived by her loving family, including 11 sons Stephen Schrader, William Todd (Leigh Ann) Schrader, and Joel (Kimberly) 12 Schrader; grandchildren Tyler Schrader, Roman Schrader, Benjamin Schrader, Ava 13 Schrader, Myla Leger, Paul (Emily) Daniel, and Christopher (Taylor) Daniel; along with 14 five great-grandchildren and many other extended family and friends who honor her 15 memory; 16 NOW, THEREFORE, 17 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 18 Kentucky: 19 Section 1. The members of the Senate hereby express their most profound 20 sympathy upon the passing of Joann Mefford Schrader. 21 Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving 22 memory of Joann Mefford Schrader. 23 Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 24 Resolution to Senator Robert Stivers for presentation to the family. 25
