A RESOLUTION honoring University of Kentucky golfer Laney Frye upon the 1 
occasion of her being named the winner of the prestigious 2023 Edith Cummings 2 
Munson Award. 3 
WHEREAS, a native of Nicholasville, Kentucky, Laney Frye graduated from 4 
Lexington Christian High School in 2020, where she was an outstanding golfer and 5 
student, graduating with a 4.0 grade-point average as a member of Beta Club, National 6 
Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta, and was selected to the American Junior Golf 7 
Association (AJGA) Scholastic All-America Team; and 8 
WHEREAS, upon graduation from Lexington Christian, Laney Frye followed in the 9 
footsteps of her grandfather, Danny McQueen, by enrolling at the University of Kentucky 10 
(UK) to play intercollegiate golf; and 11 
WHEREAS, since arriving on campus, Laney Frye has emerged as one of the finest 12 
golfers to play for the Wildcats, and currently holds school records in single-season 13 
scoring average (70.96 in 2022-23) and single-season par-or-better rounds (20 out of 30 14 
rounds played in 2022-23); and 15 
WHEREAS, in the third round of the 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association 16 
(NCAA) Women's Golf Regional in Pullman, Washington, Laney Frye shot a nine under 17 
par round of 63 to set yet another school record for the lowest score in an 18-hole round; 18 
and 19 
WHEREAS, over the course of her collegiate career, Laney Frye has shot par or 20 
better in 57 of her 110 career rounds; and 21 
WHEREAS, Laney Frye has received multiple accolades for her collegiate golf 22 
prowess, including placement on the 2020-21 Southeastern Conference (SEC) All-23 
Freshman Team and 2022-23 All-SEC Second Team; and 24 
WHEREAS, in 2023, Laney Frye became UK's first women's golf All-American 25 
since 1989 when she was named Second Team All-American by the Women's Golf 26

WHEREAS, Laney Frye has excelled in other amateur competitions, having made 1 
the match play rounds of the United States Women's Amateur Championship in each of 2 
the last three years and earning co-medalist honors in the 2022 championship; and 3 
WHEREAS, Laney Frye has proven to not only be an outstanding golfer, but an 4 
outstanding student and citizen, amassing several academic and community service 5 
honors; and 6 
WHEREAS, Laney Frye was named to the 2022 -23 Collegiate Sports 7 
Commissioners Academic All-America First Team, the first Wildcat golfer to earn that 8 
honor; and 9 
WHEREAS, Laney Frye was named the winner of the 2023 Edith Cummings 10 
Munson Award, which is awarded to the upper classman student-athlete with the highest 11 
grade point average who is both a WGCA All-American Scholar and a WGCA All-12 
American; 13 
NOW, THEREFORE, 14 
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 15 
Kentucky: 16 
Section 1.   The members of the Senate join Senator Donald Douglas in saluting 17 
the athletic, academic, and community service accomplishments of Laney Frye, 18 
commend her as an outstanding example for the young women of the Commonwealth, 19 
and wish her good fortune in all future endeavors. 20 
Section 2.   The Clerk of the Senate shall transmit a copy of this Resolution to 21 
Senator Donald Douglas form presentation to Laney Frye. 22
