UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 2476 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 3/20/2024 8:26 AM Jacketed A RESOLUTION honoring the Boyle County High School Rebels football team, 1 2023 Kentucky High School Athletic Association Class 4A Champions. 2 WHEREAS, on December 1, 2023, in front of a crowd of 8,406 fans at Kroger 3 Field on the campus of the University of Kentucky, the Boyle County Rebels defeated the 4 Colonels of Covington Catholic by a score of 41 to 0 to capture the 2023 Kentucky High 5 School Athletic Association (KHSAA) Class 4A Football Championship; and 6 WHEREAS, in one of the most dominant performances in state finals history, the 7 Boyle County defense completely stymied a Covington Catholic offense that had 8 averaged over 41 points per game prior to the finals. The Rebels not only shut out the 9 Colonels, they allowed only 64 total yards. Covington Catholic ran only one offensive 10 play inside the Boyle County 40-yard line; and 11 WHEREAS, Boyle County grew its lead steadily throughout the game and 12 controlled the contest behind a balanced offense that amassed 282 rushing yards and 131 13 yards through the air, averaging 7.5 yards per play; and 14 WHEREAS, the Rebels were led by running back Montavin Quisenberry, who had 15 12 carries for 93 yards and a touchdown, three receptions for 46 yards, returned a punt 39 16 yards for another touchdown, and was named the game's Most Valuable Player; running 17 back Avery Bodner, who had 16 carries for 76 yards and two touchdowns, five receptions 18 for 44 yards, and two sacks on defense; quarterback Sage Dawson, who completed 11 19 passes in 16 attempts for 131 yards and a touchdown; and receiver Geordon Brown, who 20 caught two passes for 39 yards and a touchdown; and 21 WHEREAS, the victory in the championship game capped off an undefeated season 22 that saw the Rebels compile a record of 15-0, outscore their opponents on the season by 23 an average of 45 to 11, and win only one game by less than a double-digit margin; and 24 WHEREAS, the day prior to the finals, Boyle County quarterback Sage Dawson 25 was named the Kentucky Football Coaches Association (KFCA) Class 4A player of the 26 year; and 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 2476 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 3/20/2024 8:26 AM Jacketed WHEREAS, the championship was the Rebels' fourth in a row and the 12th in the 1 storied history of the Boyle County program, sixth-most in the history of the 2 Commonwealth; and 3 WHEREAS, Boyle County was led by head coach Justin Haddix, the 2023 KFCA 4 Class 4A coach of the year, who, in his four years at the school, has guided the Rebels to 5 53 wins against only three losses, winning the state championship each year; and 6 WHEREAS, the dedication, tenacity, resilience, and teamwork shown by the Boyle 7 County Rebels on their journey to the state championship sets a worthy example for 8 young athletes across the Commonwealth, and it is wholly appropriate that they be 9 publicly recognized for their hard work and achievements; 10 NOW, THEREFORE, 11 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 12 Kentucky: 13 Section 1. The members of the Senate join Senator Amanda Mays Bledsoe in 14 congratulating the Boyle County Rebels and coach Justin Haddix, 2023 KHSAA Class 15 4A Football champions, and wishing all team members, coaches, and staff continued 16 success and good fortune in all future endeavors. 17 Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate shall transmit a copy of this Resolution to 18 Senator Amanda Mays Bledsoe for presentation to the team. 19
