UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 2485 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 3/20/2024 1:58 PM Jacketed A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Beatrice 1 Newsom. 2 WHEREAS, Beatrice Newsom was born on September 27, 1932, to the late George 3 M. and Kelcie Collins in Frozen Creek, Kentucky, and was the wife of the late Denver 4 Newsom; and 5 WHEREAS, in her early life Beatrice Newsom served this great nation as a member 6 of the United States Marine Corps; and 7 WHEREAS, Beatrice Newsom is better known in the Pike County community as an 8 educator, where she taught within the Pike County School District for 27 years; and 9 WHEREAS, Beatrice Newsom was a strong, quick-witted, caring woman who had 10 a fierce love for her family. She instilled a love of learning not only to her children and 11 grandchildren, but also to the hundreds of students who passed through her classroom. 12 She was a woman who empowered and invested in children, giving them opportunities to 13 grow; and 14 WHEREAS, Beatrice Newsom was a faithful and devoted follower of Christ who 15 served as a member of the Virgie Christian and Missionary Alliance Church for 58 years. 16 With a bright, steady spirit and a cheerful heart, Beatrice Newsom contributed greatly to 17 the church by serving as a Sunday school teacher and the church's secretary; and 18 WHEREAS, on March 16, 2024, Beatrice Newsom departed this earthly life at the 19 age of 91 in certain hope of resurrection and welcome into the loving embrace of her 20 Lord and Savior; and 21 WHEREAS, Beatrice Newsom was preceded in death by her parents; husband, 22 Denver Newsom; sisters, Eula Lowe, Glema Brown, Evelene McCoy, and Thelma 23 Blackburn; brothers, Clifford Collins, Reford Collins, and Clyde Plymale; and son, 24 Randy (Veletta) May; and 25 WHEREAS, Beatrice Newsom is survived by a brother, Harold (Jeanie) Collins; 26 sisters, Helen Moore and Mildred Nichols; son, Rick (Janie) Newsom; daughters, Jeanne 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 24 RS BR 2485 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 3/20/2024 1:58 PM Jacketed (Verlin) Robinson, Sharon Hall, Teresa (Randy) Mullins, and Linda (Ireland) 1 Blankenship; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of loving family, 2 friends, and caregivers; 3 NOW, THEREFORE, 4 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 5 Kentucky: 6 Section 1. The members of the Senate hereby express their most profound 7 sympathy upon the passing of Beatrice Newsom. 8 Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving 9 memory of Beatrice Newsom. 10 Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 11 Resolution to Senator Phillip Wheeler for delivery to the family. 12
